and i have been able to identify one that i do acknowledge that i would have voted, and that is the texas capital case. >> rose: right. >> i talked about that. but all the other cases i have looked at, i felt pretty proud about what i said in the early cases. >> rose: what is the best preparation for a supreme court justice? i mean, need you have judicial experience? >> i don't think that is essential by any means. i think it is an asset and makes your work easier when you come here, if you have been -- if you have served as a federal judge before but many of our great justices did not have judicial -- follows is an example, he had been a the lawyer when he came on the court, byron white had no judicial experience. there are many. i think the court really benefits from some sort of diversity within the group, and although i think all of the members of the present court are imminently well qualified i wouldn't change any one of them, i do think that, i kind of like the situation before when there was a little diversity in both geographic, different law schools and different professions. >>
